Andrea Allison Stephen Emms’s “Watercolours of the Northwest” continues until June 23. I was just blown away by these 40 paintings. As you enter the gallery you are greeted by a White Pine from Quetico Provincial Park. This is the painting that was on the show poster. The paintings show an exceptional talent with the watercolour medium. Some paintings are very realistic while others show some abstract influences and the Lawren Harris influence.
There is something for everyone in this show; Lake Superior scenes, rugged cliffs, lighthouses, flowers, trees, bald eagle, etc. The large paintings are particularly striking. There is one of the pictograph cliff on Lac La Croix in Quetico Provincial Park. If you stand back, the water detail is very realistic. You can picture yourself bobbing on the water in a canoe.
Stephen has a large number of very affordable prints and cards available. He will also do a print of most of the paintings in the show. If you see a painting that you would like to have a print of let us know in the gallery and it can be ordered. Matted prints are available – to fit an 8 x 10 “ frame $15.00; to fit an 11 x 14 frame $25.00. Stephen Emms generously donated a print of the White Pine painting as our raffle item for this show. Try your luck for a loonie and help the gallery at the same time.
Our 25th Anniversary Celebration Tree could use a few more decorations. For any donation of silver (5, 10, 25 cents or a loonie) write your name on a decoration and hang it on the tree. We’d like to see it filled with decorations by the end of October.
The Gallery is located on the lower level of the Voyageur Mall and is open from 12 noon-3pm, Tuesday to Saturday.
Thank you for stopping in to see our Gallery and Gift Shop.
We hope you enjoyed your visit and will return.
