The Pictograph Gallery is pleased to announce the following awards for People’s Choice in honour of ‘Creative Minds 5” and our 25th year. Visitors to the Gallery over the time of this show entered their three favourites on a ballot, using the number placed beside the artwork. From those entries we determined that 1st place was ‘Red Dragon’ by Brady Lesage; 2nd place ‘Wolf’ by Katy Poirier and 3rd place ‘Gold Mask’ by Kiara Gannon.
The Pictograph Gallery Board also wishes to acknowledge the donation of three additional awards received from the Rainy River District School Board. These awards were presented to one entry in set grade levels. The ELK-Grade 4 level was given to “Sunflowers” by Joey Meany; Grade 5-8 was won by “Hands Perspective” by Hannah Hayes; and the High School award went to “Spirit Bear” by Nick Palmai.
A sincere thank you goes to Voyageur Books for their assistance and support in helping us to give the 238 participants of the ‘Creative Minds 5’ exhibit, a participation award. In this, the 25th year of the Gallery, it was a special year for everyone involved. To our surprise, when we dismantled the ‘Creative Minds 5’ show, there was a wonderful piece of art entitled ‘The blue face puppet’ by Ally. If Ally would like her innovative puppet back, and would also like to receive a participation award, please come down to the Gallery, as it is waiting for you at the desk.
Sandra Pooley’s show “Still Stitching” opened on March 31. Have you ever tried Counted Cross-Stitch? It is an exercise in patience. Sandra writes: “I enjoy starting with a blank piece of cloth and watching the progression of the pattern and seeing the finished work. I did the quilter for my grama because she used to quilt. I did the bird alphabet and the old world map for my husband because he liked the pictures. I do pictures that catch my eye. I have never been a crafty person so I surprised myself and a few people how well I do needlepoint. I usually do projects that take a long time. I find it to be very relaxing. The only bad thing is my eyes are not as good as when I started 23 years ago. I hope everyone enjoys my work as much as I did while I was stitching them and I remember what was going on in my life when I look at them”.
The Pictograph Gallery is located in the lower level of the Voyageur Mall. Hours are 12 noon to 3:00 p.m. from Tuesday to Saturday.
Thank you for stopping in to see our Gallery and Gift Shop.
We hope you enjoyed your visit and will return.
