‘CREATIVE MINDS 5’ – an exhibition of student work featuring multimedia and art pieces opens this coming Saturday, February 18th from 12:00 – 3:00 p.m. It is our pleasure to be able to bring you this show through the support of Ontario Power Generation (OPG). We extend HUGE thanks for this support of an annual children’s event , and in this our 25th year plan to make it a special one. The show runs from February 18th through to March 24th, so plan on bringing your child down and see what we have planned. March Break could include a trip to the Pictograph Gallery to see their art on display.

As mentioned this show has been held annually for many, many years. It was the creation of art teacher, Heather Schmutzer, who looked for a venue to display some of her students work. Back then, the art was displayed in McTaggarts (a local clothing store). Over time it became an annual exhibit in the Gallery calendar, and has continued to be one of our most colourful and delightful shows. Whether it has been titled ‘Young at Art’, or ‘Creative Minds’ – it is the natural artistic ability of young people.

The Pictograph Gallery is a Recommender Gallery for Ontario Arts Council Exhibition Assistance grants. These grants assist an artist with exhibitions by providing funding for such things as framing and promotion. Some of our allocated amount must be given to artists who are exhibiting elsewhere - not in the Pictograph Gallery. This year Jonathan Lewis was recommended for funding. He will be having a show at the Atikokan-Quetico Trading Post in March. We will be taking applications for Exhibition Assistance grants for the 2012-13 session starting in June. For any questions concerning these grants call Andrea Allison at 597-2554.

The Gallery is volunteer-driven, and has been for twenty-five years. Officially our incorporation took place on October 28, 1987 and the first employee of the newly created group was Joanne Lachapelle-Beyak. She worked for a period of one year setting up the policies and procedures which have guided us through all of these years. Thank you Joanne.

The Gallery depends on your support as well by your purchase of a membership. Memberships are available for one year - $10; 2 years - $15; or a Lifetime of $100. If you have forgotten about renewing your membership, we try to send out a reminder, and appreciate your continued donation.

The Gallery is located downstairs in the Voyageur Mall, with opening hours of Tuesday – Saturday 12 noon to 3:00 p.m. We have a small, but full Gift Shop with an array of beautiful jewellery, art prints and cards, pottery, woodworking, quilts and much more.

Thank you for stopping in to see our Gallery and Gift Shop.
We hope you enjoyed your visit and will return.
