Stephen Krasemann’s show opens on Saturday Aug. 6. The artist will be here from 1-3pm. Stephen has generously donated two prints to be raffled off. One will be raffled off the opening day. So be sure to come down and put in a looney for your chance to win one of Stephen’s prints.
At the time of writing this column I have not seen all the pieces in this show. I include these words from Stephen’s Artist Statement:
The need for creative expression has always been on Stephen’s life agenda. With encouragement from fellow artists and friends, Stephen travels the life-long journey of an artist. Not only is he a painter but he has also written music and worked as a professional photographer.
After more than a decade traveling the globe searching for wildlife with the illustrations division of the National Geographic Society, Stephen has parked his easel between the Yukon Territory mountains and the Lake Superior forests with the moose and bear, where he creates oil paintings from firsthand experiences.
Stephen’s hallmark style combines realism with suggestion from an impressionistic approach. “If I wanted to paint every blade of grass and each hair on an animal, I would be taking photographs and calling them art; the camera takes too much out of the creative equation.”
He always thought the process of putting paint to board is magical and this thought permeates his painting. “Imagine being part of a brotherhood that began with cave painting and continues today, where the paints and brushes have remained the same over the centuries.”
Stephen’s exhibit continues until Aug 27. The Pictograph Gallery will be having a table at the Artisan tent for the Bass Clinic on Thursday Aug. 11. Come and see; you may find some treasures. The Gallery is open Monday to Saturday, 11am – 4pm., on the lower level of the Voyageur Mall.
