It is starting to feel like spring is almost here...a time of change...Metamorphosis is the Pictograph Gallery's new exhibit with artist Bill McFarlane.
Bill McFarland has been making art since he was a child. In response to his love of visual communication, in 1967 he enrolled in the Commercial Art Program offered at Winnipeg's Technical Vocational High School, where he studied drawing, illustration, graphic design and colour theory. Shortly after graduation he entered the graphic arts field, a career that he was actively involved in for thirty years. Upon selling his own printing operation in 2002, he set out to pursue a full time career as a visual artist. He has since graduated with a BFA Honours from the University of Manitoba.
Although he moves easily between drawing, oil painting and watercolour, Bill is an accomplished printmaker, working primarily with linocuts and serigraphy. While he enjoys depicting the human form in his work, he takes his inspiration from the ways in which various aspects of the human condition impact on both our fellow humans and natural world. One piece entitled "Onset" is a somewhat stylized self - portrait expressing a sense of confusion and alarm, a visual documentation of Bill's emotional / spiritual journey.
Bill McFarlane would like to thank the Ontario Arts Council for supporting his exhibition through an Exhibition Assistance grant. The Pictograph Gallery is a recommender gallery (to the OAC ) for these grants.

Bill McFarlane's "Metamorphosis" exhibit runs from March 26 thru to April 16th.
The Pictograph Gallery is open Tuesday to Saturday, noon - 3:00 pm.
