Atikokan Pictograph Gallery

The Gallery is closed this week and will open Saturday March 6 with Ashley Lange’s show “Happiness; a Manner of Travel”. Come and meet the artist from 1-3 pm. Ashley is from Atikokan and currently living in Thunder Bay. The exhibit will feature acrylic paintings. Acrylic is her main medium. She finds it expressive to work with and also a challenge because you have to be quick. More in next week’s column on the reasons behind the title of her show.
Ashley was the recipient of an Ontario Arts Council Exhibition Assistance grant. The Pictograph Gallery is a recommender gallery for these grants. Artists may apply to any recommender gallery in their region and receive from $500 - $1500 per year for assistance in putting on their exhibitions. Allowable expenses include such things as matting, framing, shipping, etc. Materials used to produce the art work are not eligible expenses. If anyone is interested in applying for Exhibition Assistance grants they can contact Andrea Allison (597-2554). Check out the Ontario Arts Council website for information on this and other grants available www.arts.on.ca. Artists may apply for these grants even if they are not exhibiting in the Pictograph Gallery. The Pictograph Gallery acknowledges the support of the Ontario Arts Council for this grant program.
A reminder about the day long card making workshop with Heather Hosick on March 20. Registrations are being accepted at The Pictograph Gallery until March 13. Cost is $40 (includes supplies, fee is non-refundable; if unable to attend, please find a replacement). Maximum number of participants is 15. The workshop will take place at The Riverview United Church hall. Join Heather for fun projects titled “Spring Fling”. The workshop will run from 9: a.m. until 4: p.m., bring an entrée to contribute to a pot luck lunch. If you would like to register for the workshop during the week the Gallery is closed, Feb. 28 – March 5, contact Andrea Allison (597-2554).
