Pictograph Newsletter for August 17, 2009
Alisha Gosselin

This week at the Pictograph Gallery we are exhibiting multi-media works of art by local artists, all inspired by Quetico and the Park’s Centennial. On the evening of the 7th, the four judges had to choose three pieces, out of twenty-six, to be the recipients of 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes, along with two honourable mentions. It was a tough job, but after a while, they were able to come to a consensus and pick the winners.
First place went to Kristy Cameron, for her work Spirit of Quetico, an amazing, bright, complex piece done in acrylics. Second place went to Heather Schmutzer for one of her two pieces, Dragonfly Dance I, a gourd dyed and decorated with hematite, with dragonfly imprints on it. Third place went to Catherine Timberg’s multi-media work Passing Through, a large piece mounted on canvas with everything in it from acrylics to gel pens to birch bark! The two honourable mentions went to Elaine Campanaro for her acrylic painting Shorelines, and to Ann Larrabee for her watercolour Water’s Edge. These are definitely pieces to see, so come in and view the exceptional work until the 29th of August!
Also, next week will be the last article I will be writing for the Pictograph Gallery, as I am finished at my summer position at the end of this month. I’d like to thank everyone who came down to visit me, and for the lovely compliments I have received on my articles! Thank you!
Remember, The Pictograph Gallery is located in the lower level of the Voyageur Mall, and we’re open Monday to Saturday, 11 to 4.
