Valerie Fraser Thunder Bay sculptural artist Marianne Kyryluk wishes to thank the Ontario Arts Council for their support in making her exhibit "Within Our Grasp" possible. The Ontario Arts Council provided Marianne with the funding needed to transport her sculpture to and from Atikokan, Thunder Bay and Sioux Lookout. To all the folks that expressed an interest in contributing their hand cast to the sculpture and were not selected, they may still do so upon an invitation by the artist to visit her in Thunder Bay. Marianne can be contacted via email at makyryluk@hotmail.com to arrange a casting segment. The current installment at the gallery is titled "Quilted Memories" an exhibit of beautiful textile art on display from April 4 - 25th. Several local quilters have entrusted their family heirloom quilts to the gallery for this exhibit. Looking at these beautiful quilts makes me want to wrap myself inside one of them, with a good book and a cup of tea. Homespun quilts such as these evoke sentiments of nurturing, mothering, and family memories. Who did not enjoy the hug of a handmade quilt sometime throughout their childhood, and doesn't a quilt always bring you back to a simpler time? Handmade quilts are a joyous way to celebrate life events, weddings, anniversaries, births, and family reunions. A journal of life's events can unfold within a family fond of the timeless traditon of quilting. Stepping into "Quilted Memoreis" exhibit you will be certain to experience a flood of homespun memories of your own. I am awed at the expertise of the quilter's hands, the exact stitching, the details, the use of color and pattern, the love that went into these creations is admirable. We are pleased to announce that the watercolor workshop by Evelyn Konrad, April 17, 18 & 19th, is now full. The maximum paid registrations has been met, making everything a certainty for the go ahead of this exciting workshop. Anyone still interested in attending may call the Gallery to place his or her name on a participant's cancellation list. We will assist as liaison between parties in the event of an art student's need to cancel. Whether you enjoy quilting, watercolor painting, photography, sculpture, pottery; do not forget to enroll your art form in the upcoming Quetico themed juried art exhibit. Dates to remember are May 30, expression of interest and entry forms due, July 28-30 delivery of your finished work. Aug. 4 - 7 Judging of Entries, Aug 8 - 39th Exhibit and Aug. 39 Awards Presentation. Entry forms are available at The Pictograph Gallery and if you prefer can be downloaded from our web site.
