The Pictograph Art Gallery will host a workshop by Evelyn Konrad, (www.konradwatercolours.com) A well-known watercolor artist from Thunder Bay; Evelyn will cover waterscapes, landscapes, and florals. Other topics may be covered depending on interest. We are very excited that she is spending her weekend with us in Atikokan to enjoy the camaraderie of many local painters. Cheques are to be dated for the day you register. With all of the avid painters in our midst we know this workshop is going to fill up fast. Register by April 1, as space is limited. The class size will be minimum of 10 participants to a maximum of 15. Evelyn will be instructing in the AEDO Boardroom. If you can not make it to the gallery to register during the hours 12: noon - 3:00 p.m. Tuesday - Saturday, call Andrea at 597-2554 or email allisona@tbaytel.net to make other arrangements.
This Satuday March 28 is the take down of Marianne Kyryluks' amazing interactive exhibit "Within Our Grasp". If you have not yet had the opportunity to join the crowds attending the gallery to see what it is all about; you really must try to fit it into your schedule. The exhibit has expanded with the help of many individuals in Atikokan, with all participants having a great time lending a hand. Marianne is a fascinating artist as is her sculpture. Having spent her time in Atikokan during the exhibit, which opened March 7, Marianne has welcomed several volunteers lucky enough to be selected to participate in the project. People enthusiastically submitted their names, vying for placement as not everyone gets picked. I wonder if anyone can recognize some of the hands, it must be a bit surreal to see yours suspended in the sculpture. The artist can only create one new hand casting every second day due to the process involved. She records the conversations from each segment and finishes off the experience with a photograph of the participant, which then is posted to the group board and included in the photo binder. The audio recording becomes another component to the display as visitors listen in on the conversations from past sittings while studying the sculpture. It is very interesting and fun, some of the comments are hilarious. Last count, the sculpture owns 106 hands. Young people from the Rainbow Daycare where enthrolled with the sculpture on their recent daycare outing to the Gallery.
Marianne has enjoyed her stay in our community, discovering daily neat places to go and people to meet. We feel like she is one of ours, as she enjoys the accommodating sunny studio space offered by Pictograph Gallery Chair, Lori McClusky. "Within Our Grasp" on now until March 28 at 2: p.m. when at that time we will all give a big hand to Marianne for her successful exhibit and assist in crating up the interactive sculpture as it sets our for its next destination.
The Pictograph Art Gallery, lower level of The Voyageur Mall, open Tuesday - Saturday from 12: noon until 3:00 p.m. until March 28th.
