Last chance to purchase any of the expert works of Cher Pruys, exhibited at The Pictograh Art Gallery, as this Saturday,Feb. 28 will be the final day of "The Art of Cher Pruys". This fabulous exhibit was brought to us through the assistance of The Ontario Art Council. The Pictograph Art Gallery, as an OAC recommending Gallery for Northwestern Ontario, is pleased to be able to offer this opportunity to local and regional artists to exhibit both inside and outside of our gallery. If you are a novice, emerging or professional artist and considering exhibiting your work please feel free to contact the Board of The Pictograph Art Gallery for this consideration. We are currently booked for 2009, and are seeking artist interest for 2010. The late Canadian watercolor artist Zoltan Szabo dedicated his work, in one of his many books to the "Snowflake". He told his admiring students of a day he was painting a cloudy landscape outdoors when the snow began to fall and he was forced to give in to the elements, painting incomplete, packing up and recovering with his work to his vehicle. Arriving back to his studio, he was delighted to bare witness to the dramatic impressions resulting from the snowflakes landing on the watercolor paper, leaving a trace of their presence, the painting was perfect. Delightfully humbled with more than just a happy accident as he expressed it, Zoltan would not take credit for nature's creativity. Being one of those students, naive and unaware at the time that I was in the presence of greatness, I wistfully wonder what it would be like to share with hime today? During his years as artist in residence at Sault College, Zoltan influenced many budding artists, leaving a profound impact on our world.
"The creation of even a simple snowflake is beyond man's capability. To me, as an artist, this humble little ice crystal symbolizes beauty and simplicity. The purity of a snowflake is the result of all the colors of the rainbow combining to become the whitest white. The snowflake responds with extreme sensitivity to the slightest change in its environment taking on the blue tint of the sky, the greens of the forest, the pink and golden colors of the sun, to offer the painter the power potential limited only by his imagination. A snowflake which fell from the heavens, like pure love, to make this earth a little cleaner and my life more beautiful" Zoltan Zsabo
Cher Pruys shares that same appreciation for art, evident in her powerful portrayals on paper. The spontanious medium of watercolor is ideal for capturing the fleeting effects of light and color, as Cher so aptly achieves. Similarly, Cher's very nature is that of a humble artist, excited at the opportunity to share her knowledge, expertise, techniques, stories and creations. We are excited at the prospect of welcoming Cher back this fall for a workshop... stay posted. Enjoy "The Art of Cher Pruys" at The Pictograph Art Gallery this week. Volunteers are wating to greet you from Tues. - Sat. 12: - 3: p.m.
