Pictograph Newsletter for Feb. 2, 2009
February 1, 2009
Valerie Fraser Everyone is currently experiencing difficult economic times in ths world or ours; the Pictograph Gallery is not immune to the forecast. Board Members gathered together recently to create our own economic stimulus package for 2009. We are a volunteer based organization and with the generous donation of time from all involved we are able to keep our gallery staffed. We are very appreciative of our volunteer help as well as the interest of several new recruits. We are responsible as well for basic operating costs in order to keep our doors open and seek cost saving measures where ever possible. Your paid memberships support the gallery to defray some of these costs, which are ever increasing. Plans are under way for some creative fund raising activities. We are organizing a silent auction of collectibles, antiques and art, which is scheduled tentatively the last week of May. We gratefully accept any form of donations; items for our May auction, monetary or in kind service. We also have 2 vacancies on the Board, a very rewarding experience I have come to discover. If you can help with any form of donation, are interested in becoming a board member, ideas or would like to conduct a workshop please contact a board member or just drop by the gallery. Contact information is on our web site www.atikokanpictographgallery.com, as well on our brochure. Our doors will be closed this week, but do feel free to drop in for a visit if you see us working in the gallery. We will be taking down the current exhibit "A Stranger in Paradise" by Mark Nisenholt; a most intriguing show that we as a gallery were proud and priviledged to be on the roster of this touring exhibit. We will reopen with a coffee/tea reception as we welcome Cher Pruys of Devlin Ontario on Saturday Feb. 7, at 1:p.m. Visitors to Rainy River, Devlin, and Fort Frances area may be familiar with Cher's work. Cher has exhibited throughout Canada and the United States. Many pieces are on public display throughout the Rainy River District, most paying homage to the lifestyle and history of aviation. Chers' paintings appeal to all backgrounds and age groups. Be certain to make The Pictograph Art Gallery a part of your day this Saturday. Quetico 100th celebratory winter activites are already under way. Candle light skis, snowshoeing etc. Posters are about town advertising planned activited from Jan. - Aug. The Pictograph Gallery decided to contribute to the festivities in August with an open juried art exhibition for local artists. Artistic inspiration for the exhibit is themed "Quetico". Calling all local artists, novice or professional to get involved, demonstrate Atikokans' talent and love for our surroundings. There will be awards, great prizes,..all works will be judged by professional artists from the region. Entry forms are available at the Gallery. For out of town visitors, The Pictograph Art Gallery is located on the lower level of the Voyageur Mall. Our volunteers staff the gallery Tues. - Sat. from 12: - 3: p.m.
Thank you for stopping in to see our Gallery and Gift Shop.
We hope you enjoyed your visit and will return.
