THE PICTOGRAPH ART GALLERY
Valerie Fraser
Artists seek inspiration everywhere, whether it is a mood, event, setting, travels, and life experiences. An artist eye is multi faceted, ever exploring methods of communicating that which they wish to portray captured in their chosen medium.
Such an inspiration presented itself a few winter evenings ago when a few members of the local deer population decided to help themselves to a buffet of juicy crabapples remaining on my leafless tree in the front yard. The soft glow of the street lamp illuminated the glistening falling snowflakes, coming to rest on the tree branches and the two visitors; a doe and yearling, enjoying their Christmas feast, plucking at branches as high as they could reach, leaving evidence of a wreath of hoof prints around the base of the tree in the deep snow. The master artist of this work is known to us all, I would struggle to portray this inspirational beauty from my palate to canvas. Feeling grateful that I was a witness to such natural beauty, I will leave this memory unspoiled by not attempting a tangible portrayal of this ethereal scene, but rather share the beauty that was captured on such a wondrous evening. Close your eyes if you will, imagine, meditate and share with me this moment in time, a true gift, natures Christmas card. On behalf of the Board of the Pictograph Gallery and me, we express our sincerest wishes for a joyous, peaceful season. May we not move too quickly through life that we overlook its importance and welcome inspiration into our lives?
