THE PICTOGRAPH ART GALLERY

The Pictograph Gallery will be closed for the holidays on Tuesday, Dec.16.Once again our local crafters and artisans helped to make the Christmas Market a great success. Many pieces from the Christmas market are now on display and will be available for sale in the Galleries’ gift shop in the New Year.
We will re-open on Jan. 10 with an exciting exhibit by Thunder Bay artist photographer Mark Nisenholt. A resident of Thunder Bay, Mark, is Assistant Associate Professor of the Fine Arts Division, Visual Arts Department at Lakehead University. Mark works as an artist in several media; painting, drawing, prints, as well as computer art and video. His work has been shown in Toronto, New York, Winnipeg, Duluth, Oshawa, and Thunder Bay. We wait in excited anticipation for a fantastic exhibit by this renowned artist, and look forward to launching our full calendar of artist’s exhibits for 2009, starting with Mark Nisenholt in January. Learn more about this artist, his life and work through the exhibit titled “Digital Prints” opening Jan. 10, 2009.
More exciting news in the New Year is the beginnings of the formation of a local multi-media painters group in our community. Starting Jan. anyone interested in getting together weekly to paint, share, learn from fellow painters can do so at the Art Centre. Several Pictograph exhibitors plan to participate in this casual gathering, and already thinking of possibilities for a group exhibit in the future. Disciplined artists generally create in solitude, enjoying their pastime, honing their techniques. Inspiration, knowledge also comes from sharing with other artists; great bodies of work can be produced in a group setting. This new initiative by several emerging painter is exciting for the community’s arts and culture. This would also be a perfect venue to further your inspiration to paint Quetico for the upcoming Quetico visual art contest to be held at The Pictograph Gallery in Aug.2009
The Pictograph Art Gallery re-opens Jan. 10, 2009. If there is something we can be of assistance of while we are closed please do not hesitate to contact a Board Member, leave a phone message at the Gallery, or email us on our web site www.atikokanpictographgallery.com .
